I then cleaned up the scan in Nomad Sculpt and imported the file to Blender so I could finish texturing and rendering.
I started this project by sculpting it out of clay and scanning it into digital space with my iPhone and an app called Polycam.

This project was an initial exploration into a manifestation of grief and what that being might look like. I wanted to capture the spectrum of emotions that were rageful, hysterical and even denying. I wanted to offer an empowered and unshackled image that feels as imperfect and as contradictory as the female experience. To do this I attempted to play with the beautiful and the grotesque, the divine and the demonic. I drew inspiration from Chinese mythology, specifically the goddess Guanyin, as well as elements of body horror and surrealism.
She is meant to feel like a God, but in a way that disgusts and awes the viewer at the same time. Her many faces are meant to communicate the different stages of grief and their cyclic nature. Anger, sadness, denial and acceptance all coexist in the same being. She is larger than life, an entity beyond this world, a force of nature.
